(Promoting local resilience and food security from the perspective of sustainability and environmental conservation)
PIM has been initiating a pilot agricultural project in Rathedaung township (Mayukam), Rakhine state, Myanmar. Agriculture inputs are not easily available due to transportation blockade across Rakhine, and the cost of agri-inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticide have been increased by threefold and are not affordable by farmers.
Our pilot project aims to help farmers to access to farming techniques trainings and other farm supportive tools and materials as well. Our goal is to promote local resilient and develop livelihood by empowering the farmers in the field of sustainable agriculture and permaculture.
The project is designed to include diverse participants, farmers, women farmers and youths and to cover related farming techniques and trainings on sustainable farming.
The upcoming SRI (System of Rice Intensification) technique training will be newly introduced to 60 farmers from 10 villages, and paddy seeds and other cultivation-supportive farming tools and materials will be provided as well.
Basic agriculture training, agri-input making training and vegetable seed production for vegetable production will be prioritized for women farmers and additionally, the permaculture design training will be conducted for (20) youths. This project initially will directly benefit (100) local farmers from (10) villages.
